Integration
Every year, Köping's Municipality receives a number of refugees, as determined by agreement with the Swedish Migration Board. All people, regardless of ethnic background should have the same rights and obligations in society.
The municipality's ambition for refugees in Köping is that they should receive a good introduction to Swedish society, that they become self-sufficient and as far as is possible, be given help to work through their difficulties in connection with refugee crises and their adaptation to Swedish society. The process of integration is based strongly on democracy and participation.
The Integration unit offers newly arrived refugees advice and information on social issues, contact with other authorities and institutions such as schools, health care and transport, as well as help with child, elderly and transport services and also assistance with support and treatment calls.
The Integration unit is responsible for creating an individual program tailored for each individual refugee, encompassing the following:
- Teaching of Swedish
- Contact with Swedish working life, often in the form of internships
- Information about Swedish society
Once an agreement has been created with the refugee and an integration plan produced, the household can receive initial support payments.

Sedan 2012 är Köpings kommuns organisation miljöcertifierad enligt standarden ISO 14 001. Köping är en av de första kommunerna med miljöcertifikat för alla förvaltningar och bolag. Köping producerar också fjärrvärme med fossilfria bränslen och stora investeringar görs i fastigheterna för att spara miljön och förbättra klimatet.
